Mandi Bahauddin: Torrential monsoon rain lashed the city overnight, inundating streets, roads, and markets, turning many areas into virtual rivers and canals. Rainwater accumulated in several low-lying localities, causing inconvenience to residents.
Following the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif and under the instructions of Deputy Commissioner Chaudhry Adeel Haider, Managing Director WASA Mandi Bahauddin, Ali Ahmed Chaudhry, led an emergency response operation across the city.
Accompanied by WASA officers and field staff, the Managing Director inspected the city’s drainage situation and visited key locations, including College Chowk, Jail Road, Dakkhana Road, and the Railway Warehouse area. He directed officials to ensure the immediate cleaning of drains and sewerage channels to restore normal traffic and public movement.
Speaking on the occasion, Ali Ahmed Chaudhry said that WASA Mandi Bahauddin, under the leadership of the Deputy Commissioner, remains fully prepared to tackle any emergency arising from the ongoing monsoon season. He added that WASA teams are working round the clock on an emergency basis to remove rainwater from roads and residential areas and to minimize public inconvenience.
He further stated that suction machines and dewatering pumps have been deployed in low-lying areas to accelerate water drainage. Simultaneously, emergency work is underway to improve the city’s drainage system through the cleaning of small and major sewer lines and the reopening of blocked drains.
Ali Ahmed Chaudhry expressed confidence that, with the cooperation of citizens, the district administration and WASA Mandi Bahauddin will continue to respond effectively to the challenges posed by heavy monsoon rains and ensure better public service.
