Dr. Shahida Rehmani, MNA and Secretary of the Women’s Parliamentary Caucus, paid a heartfelt Benazir Bhutto tribute on the 73rd birth anniversary of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, recalling her lasting impact on Pakistan’s democratic journey and the advancement of women in public life.
Speaking on the occasion in Islamabad, she said Benazir Bhutto remained a visionary leader whose courage, resilience and devotion to democratic principles continue to inspire people across the country. She noted that as the first woman Prime Minister of Pakistan and the Muslim world, Benazir Bhutto broke long-standing barriers and opened new space for women to enter politics, leadership and national decision-making.
Dr. Shahida Rehmani said the former prime minister was more than a political figure, calling her a symbol of hope, progress and empowerment for women in Pakistan and beyond. She added that Benazir Bhutto’s struggle for democracy, human rights and social justice still serves as a guiding light for those working toward a more inclusive society.
She further observed that Benazir Bhutto championed policies aimed at improving education, healthcare and economic opportunities for women and marginalized communities. According to her, this legacy continues to shape efforts to strengthen democratic institutions and promote gender equality in Pakistan.
The Women’s Parliamentary Caucus, she said, remains committed to carrying forward Benazir Bhutto’s vision of a democratic, tolerant and equitable Pakistan where women can contribute fully to national development. Dr. Shahida Rehmani also urged younger people, especially young women, to draw inspiration from Benazir Bhutto’s determination, leadership and unwavering dedication to public service.
