LONDON — Raja Sikandar Khan, a prominent member of the Kashmiri diaspora, continues to advocate for the Kashmir cause through the Global Pak Kashmir Supreme Council (GPKSC), working to raise international awareness of the political and humanitarian challenges facing the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Under his leadership, the organisation aims to unite the Kashmiri diaspora, engage international policymakers and encourage diplomatic efforts towards a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute. Raja Sikandar Khan has repeatedly urged the British government and Members of Parliament to play a constructive role in addressing the issue.
The GPKSC has organised events and conferences and engaged with policymakers and international organisations to highlight the political and human rights concerns of the Kashmiri people. The organisation also seeks to strengthen cooperation among Pakistani and Kashmiri communities abroad and build broader international support for their cause.
Speaking about upcoming activities, Raja Sikandar Khan said the council was preparing a peaceful rally in London on October 27 to mark Kashmir Black Day. According to him, the demonstration is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. outside 10 Downing Street, the official residence of the British Prime Minister, before proceeding towards the Indian High Commission.
October 27, 1947, is observed by many Kashmiris as Black Day, marking the arrival of Indian forces in Kashmir. The day holds significance for those calling for the right to self-determination under relevant United Nations resolutions. The Kashmir dispute remains a longstanding issue between Pakistan and India.
Raja Sikandar Khan said peaceful demonstrations remain important for keeping international attention focused on Kashmir, particularly following India's 2019 revocation of the region's special constitutional status.
He said several coaches had already been booked to bring participants from different parts of the United Kingdom to London for the rally. While the GPKSC is playing a key role in organising the demonstration, other organisations and community groups are also expected to participate.
The rally's turnout and overall impact will become clear on October 27. Organisers hope the demonstration will help renew international attention to the Kashmir dispute and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
