Report: ANI Correspondent:
ISLAMABAD –The Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, in collaboration with the National Heritage and Culture Division, has launched the Heritage Education Initiative in federal educational institutions to promote cultural awareness, preserve traditional craftsmanship and strengthen students’ connection with Pakistan’s rich cultural heritage.
The six-month pilot programme will be implemented in 10 public schools under the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE), with each school establishing a Heritage Club comprising 20 to 30 students from Classes VI to VIII.
The initiative will integrate practical, creative and experiential learning into existing educational activities without introducing additional subjects, examinations or graded assignments.
Students will explore six craft areas: truck art, patchwork, jewellery making, clay pottery, rabab and digital art. The programme will encourage research, observation, hands-on activities and creative expression to help students understand the traditions and craftsmanship that have shaped Pakistan’s cultural identity.
The pilot will follow four stages—discovery, experience, creation and showcase—and conclude with a student-curated exhibition to display participants’ work and learning.
The initiative will be implemented in three phases, beginning with a pilot programme, followed by consolidation and expansion, and ultimately institutionalisation to ensure long-term sustainability within the education system.
The Ministry said the initiative aims to promote creativity, critical thinking, cultural appreciation and a shared national identity while connecting younger generations with traditional knowledge and local communities.
The pilot’s implementation and learning outcomes will help inform future expansion and the development of a sustainable framework for heritage education across federal educational institutions.
