ISLAMABAD– Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday met a delegation of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), led by Convener and Federal Minister for Education Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, to discuss the country’s overall political situation and developments in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
The delegation included Federal Minister for National Health Syed Mustafa Kamal, Senators Amir Waliuddin Chishti and Khalida Ateeb, and several members of the National Assembly.
Briefing the delegation on the situation in KP, the prime minister said the difficult decision concerning the province had been taken in the best interest of its people after efforts to resolve matters through negotiations failed to yield a positive response.
He expressed concern over increasing terrorist attacks targeting civilians and security forces, alleging that the provincial government had failed to openly condemn terrorist groups. He also described the planned long march as a conspiracy against the country’s improving economy.
The MQM delegation assured the prime minister of its full support for the government’s decisions regarding Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, and Prime Minister’s Adviser on Political Affairs and Inter-Provincial Coordination Rana Sanaullah also attended the meeting.
