ISLAMABAD—Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production Haroon Akhtar Khan on Tuesday said the time had come to transform the longstanding brotherly ties between Pakistan and Türkiye into stronger economic cooperation through investment, trade and private-sector partnerships.
Addressing a press conference at the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), he welcomed the Chamber’s Business Opportunity Conference & Excellence Awards to be held in Istanbul on August 13, saying the initiative supports the vision of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to increase bilateral trade to US$5 billion.
Haroon Akhtar said Pakistan’s improving economic stability had enhanced investor confidence, adding that the government was focused on empowering the private sector, promoting industrialisation and improving the ease of doing business. He announced that he would lead the Pakistani business delegation to Türkiye to facilitate business-to-business engagement.
ICCI President Sardar Tahir Mehmood said the Istanbul conference would showcase Pakistan’s investment potential, promote joint ventures, technology transfer and create new export opportunities across key sectors. He reaffirmed ICCI’s commitment to strengthening economic diplomacy and helping achieve the US$5 billion bilateral trade target.
Enes Malik Cetin, Commercial Counsellor at the Embassy of Türkiye in Islamabad, appreciated ICCI’s initiative and expressed confidence that the visit would further strengthen trade and investment relations between the two countries.
