MITHI — Civil Hospital Mithi observed World Rabies Day with an awareness initiative aimed at promoting rabies prevention, vaccination and community participation in the fight against the potentially fatal disease.
The event was held under the supervision of Civil Surgeon Dr. Shahid Ahmed Jhanjhi, who led a team of doctors and paramedical staff in highlighting the importance of coordinated efforts to prevent rabies and protect public health.
Reflecting this year’s theme, “Stronger Together,” the initiative underscored the need for collaboration among healthcare professionals, relevant departments and local communities to strengthen rabies prevention and control measures.
As part of the awareness campaign, educational materials were distributed and informational sessions were conducted to educate participants about rabies transmission, preventive vaccination and the importance of seeking immediate medical attention following a suspected exposure.
The sessions also highlighted the need for timely medical intervention after animal bites, including prompt wound washing and assessment by healthcare professionals for post-exposure prophylaxis.
District Health Officer Tharparkar Dr. Lekhraj Sarangani emphasized the importance of public participation and cooperation among relevant departments in combating the disease.
“Community involvement and inter-departmental cooperation are key in our fight against this preventable disease,” he said.
World Rabies Day is observed internationally to raise awareness about rabies prevention and support efforts to eliminate human deaths caused by the disease. The observance also highlights the importance of accessible vaccination, public education and coordinated action to address rabies at its source.
The initiative at Civil Hospital Mithi reaffirmed the local health community’s commitment to raising awareness, promoting preventive healthcare and contributing to global efforts to eliminate rabies.
