HANGU –Eight militants were killed while six security personnel, including two Pakistan Army officers, were martyred during an intense exchange of fire between security forces and Khwarij in Hangu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Sunday.
According to the military’s media wing, an exchange of fire took place between a security forces convoy and Khwarij in Hangu district. The troops effectively engaged the militants, resulting in the killing of eight Khwarij.
However, during the intense exchange of fire, two officers who were leading their troops from the front also embraced martyrdom along with four other security personnel, ISPR said.
The martyred officers were identified as Captain Abuzar Farooq, 23, a resident of Gujranwala district, and Lieutenant Sheraz Babar, 22, a resident of Chakwal district.
ISPR said the two officers fought gallantly while leading their troops and paid the ultimate sacrifice along with four other personnel.
Following the engagement, a sanitisation operation was launched in the area to eliminate any remaining militants and ensure the security of the surrounding area.
The military’s media wing said the counter-terrorism campaign under the Azm-e-Istehkam framework, approved by the Federal Apex Committee under the National Action Plan, would continue with full resolve.
ISPR said the sacrifices of the security personnel further reinforced the commitment of the armed forces and law-enforcement agencies to safeguarding the country and combating terrorism.
