ISLAMABAD — A meeting of the Senate Functional Committee on Human Rights was held at Parliament House on Wednesday under the chairpersonship of Senator Samina Mumtaz Zehri.

The committee expressed strong dissatisfaction over administrative negligence, incomplete investigations and procedural delays in several high-profile cases involving loss of life, domestic violence, child-related crimes and cyber harassment.

During proceedings on the death of 14 newborn infants at PIMS, Senator Samina Mumtaz Zehri questioned the omission of senior management from the inquiry report and rejected the report submitted by the Additional Secretary, Ministry of Health.

The committee directed authorities to register an FIR against the primary accused and submit their complete names and designations, along with forensic and DNA reports, at the next meeting.

Senator Masroor Ahsan sought the Roznamcha diary record from the concerned SP, while Senator Quratulain Marri questioned why the Belt Force security agency had only been issued show-cause notices.

The committee also reviewed the murder case of Hina Zareef, the cyber-harassment case involving Ahmed Javed, the murder case of Mir Raza Ali Khan in Karachi, and the Shukria Bibi case in Quetta, directing police authorities to submit detailed investigation and forensic reports.

The committee further examined the case of domestic worker Ayesha Javed in Lahore involving alleged sexual assault, illegal abortion and subsequent death. Officials informed the committee that forensic samples had been sent to the Punjab Forensic Science Agency, while the illegal abortion inquiry had been referred to the Punjab Healthcare Commission.

The committee directed concerned authorities to submit further investigation reports at the next meeting.
