Public Under the Burden of Inflation

The continuous increase in petroleum product prices has made the lives of ordinary people even more difficult. Whenever petrol prices rise, transportation fares, food items, and other daily necessities become more expensive, directly affecting the poor and middle-class segments of society.

People living in hilly and rural areas are already facing difficulties due to limited resources and fewer employment opportunities. The increase in fuel prices has further raised their travel expenses, while essential items such as groceries, vegetables, pulses, flour, medicines, and other necessities are increasingly becoming unaffordable. Many families are being forced to cut down on their basic needs simply to manage their monthly expenses.

On the other hand, heavy electricity and gas bills, various taxes, and rising daily expenses have placed an enormous burden on the public. For an ordinary worker or a person with a limited income, paying the electricity bill often means compromising on household groceries. Paying children’s school fees can make it difficult to afford medical treatment. The lower-middle and white-collar classes are among the most affected because they often cannot openly express their financial difficulties.

The question is: despite collecting taxes and substantial amounts under various heads from the public, why do rural and hilly areas still lack basic facilities? Even today, many areas suffer from inadequate access to clean drinking water, paved roads, sanitation, healthcare, and quality education.

The responsibility of governments is not merely to increase prices and collect taxes; they must also provide relief to the people. The public needs practical measures rather than political promises. There is an urgent need for effective economic planning that puts ordinary citizens at the centre and works to reduce the growing burden of inflation.

Today, the public is asking only one question: How long will they continue to bear the burden of inflation, heavy utility bills, and the lack of basic facilities?
