LAHORE — Punjab has become the first province in Pakistan to establish an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Hub, aimed at strengthening security, crime prevention and emergency response through advanced technology.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif formally launched the AI Hub project at the PIFTIC headquarters, where she was given a detailed briefing on the project and its objectives.
Maryam Nawaz said the concept of artificial intelligence had been transformed into reality within a few months. She thanked the Pakistan Army and Lahore Corps Commander Lieutenant General Fayyaz Hussain Shah for their cooperation and appreciated Home Minister Khawaja Salman Rafiq, Home Secretary Ahmed Javed Qazi and other officials for establishing the AI Hub in record time.
She said the police, Special Branch and other law-enforcement agencies deserved appreciation for working as one unit to protect the public and maintain law and order.
The chief minister said the AI Hub would help improve response times against terrorism and crime, while district coordination committees would receive digital alerts to enable authorities to address potential threats before incidents occurred.
Maryam Nawaz said crime in Punjab had declined by up to 70 percent and stressed that development projects must go hand in hand with the protection of citizens’ lives and property.
She said Punjab had invested billions of rupees to become a technology-enabled province. Joint check posts had been strengthened with bulletproof facilities, thermal cameras and night-vision cameras to improve security.
