MULTAN: Coordinator to Federal Tax Ombudsman Saif-ur-Rehman on Sunday said renewable energy was a strategic necessity for Pakistan’s future and stressed the need to accelerate the transition towards clean, affordable and sustainable energy sources.
Talking to a delegation of industrialists, he said Pakistan had enormous potential for solar, wind, hydropower and other renewable energy resources. Proper utilization of these resources could reduce dependence on imported fuels and help conserve valuable foreign exchange.
Saif-ur-Rehman said expanding renewable energy would strengthen energy security, support industrial growth and create new employment opportunities for skilled youth.
He urged the government to introduce consistent and investor-friendly policies, simplify regulatory procedures and encourage greater private-sector participation in renewable energy projects.
He also emphasized the development of decentralized solar systems for agriculture, small businesses and households, saying these could reduce pressure on the national grid and improve access to reliable electricity.
Saif-ur-Rehman stressed the importance of modern technology, research and public-private partnerships for developing the renewable energy sector. He said a long-term national strategy with effective implementation could help Pakistan move towards a greener economy and achieve sustainable economic development.
