ISLAMABAD — Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Kissan Wing has announced a phase-wise, fact-based campaign to expose what it termed the systemic exploitation of farmers and the worsening crisis in Pakistan’s agriculture sector.
The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by PTI Kissan Wing Central Organizer Sheikh Waqas Akram and attended by senior party leaders, including Khalid Nawaz Sadhraich, Ijaz Shafi, Mian Ghous Muhammad, Faisal Amin Gandapur, Mubeen Arif Jatt and other lawmakers.
The participants reviewed the political situation and agrarian crisis, expressing concern over declining crop yields, wheat imports and the alleged neglect of agricultural research.
Sheikh Waqas Akram and Khalid Nawaz Sadhraich called for stronger links between research institutions and farmers, an end to hoarding and middlemen cartels, and implementation of a modern national agricultural policy.
Referring to PTI’s recently issued White Paper on wheat, they said historical data had been used to identify the causes of declining yields and propose reforms. They also questioned the disparity between wheat import prices and returns offered to local farmers.
The PTI Kissan Wing said its campaign would focus on evidence-based reforms aimed at protecting farmers and reviving Pakistan’s agricultural economy.
