MUZAFFARABAD—The Election Commission of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has postponed polling in LA-27 Muzaffarabad-1 scheduled for August 2, 2026, due to severe weather conditions.
According to an official press release issued by the Election Commission, polling was scheduled today for 12 Legislative Assembly seats reserved for Jammu and Kashmir refugees residing in Pakistan and nine constituencies of the Muzaffarabad Division. However, continuous heavy rainfall since last night triggered landslides and uprooted trees in the upper and remote areas of LA-27 Muzaffarabad-1, blocking several key access roads.
The Commission stated that the road closures made it impossible to transport polling staff and election materials to the affected polling stations on time.
Despite extensive efforts by the district administration and other relevant authorities throughout the night to restore road access, the routes could not be fully reopened. In view of these extraordinary circumstances, the Election Commission decided to postpone polling in LA-27 Muzaffarabad-1.
The Election Commission announced that a new polling date for LA-27 Muzaffarabad-1 will be announced today at 2:00 PM.
Expressing regret over the inconvenience caused to voters, the Commission appealed to the public for their understanding and cooperation.
