ISLAMABAD–Chairman of Pakistan Awami Quwat (PAQ) and Chairman of Rawal General & Dental Hospital Rawal Foundation, Khaqan Waheed Khawaja, has called for urgent national measures to combat the growing incidence of hepatitis, stressing the need for a comprehensive awareness campaign to educate the public about prevention and early diagnosis.
He made these remarks while addressing a seminar organised by the Department of Medicine and Gastroenterology at Rawal Hospital under the auspices of Rawal Institute of Health Sciences. The event, hosted by Associate Professor Anwar Abbasi and Professor Shah Sattar, was attended by leading physicians, healthcare professionals and medical students from across Pakistan.
Marking World Hepatitis Day, medical experts delivered presentations on hepatitis prevention, treatment and public awareness. Researchers also presented papers highlighting the increasing burden of the disease, its transmission, preventive strategies and the urgent steps needed to curb its spread.
An interactive question-and-answer session enabled doctors, paramedical staff and participants to engage with experts on key issues related to hepatitis. At the conclusion of the seminar, Chief Guest Khaqan Waheed Khawaja distributed certificates among participants and was presented with a commemorative shield by the organisers.
Earlier, Mr Khawaja inaugurated work on a sewerage system project in Kohsar Town, Jhang Syedan. He was warmly received by local dignitaries, including Raja Zubair, Shahid Satti and Raja Musaddiq, who welcomed him before he formally launched the project by cutting the ribbon.
Addressing residents, Mr Khawaja said Pakistan Awami Quwat and the Rawal Foundation remained committed to serving the public through self-help and community development initiatives, even while not in government. He said the party understood the people’s challenges and would continue expanding development projects across the country, expressing confidence in a stronger future for Pakistan under the vision of Pakistan Awami Quwat.
