TOBA TEK SINGH: Pakistani researcher Dr. Adnan Arshad has earned international recognition after receiving the prestigious Best Research Article Award at the International Congress of Biometeorology, held at the University of Novi Sad, Serbia.
Dr. Arshad, who hails from Toba Tek Singh, was selected as one of only three recipients of the award in recognition of his outstanding scientific research. His award-winning paper focuses on cotton production and the calibration of phenology-driven models for optimising sowing schedules and crop yields in drip-irrigated arid climates. The research is expected to make a significant contribution to improving agricultural productivity and water-use efficiency in drought-prone and water-scarce regions.
The award is sponsored by the Dutch Solco W. Tromp Foundation and honours the scientific legacy of the late Dr. Solco W. Tromp, co-founder of the International Society of Biometeorology and the founder of the International Journal of Biometeorology. Established more than seven decades ago, the society remains one of the world’s leading organisations promoting research on the relationship between climate and living organisms.
Dr. Adnan Arshad’s achievement is a matter of great pride for Pakistan and reflects the country’s growing contribution to international scientific research. His success highlights the potential of Pakistani researchers to make meaningful contributions to global challenges in agriculture, climate science, and sustainable development.
The academic community and well-wishers have congratulated Dr. Arshad on this remarkable accomplishment and expressed confidence that his future research will continue to benefit science and society while bringing further honour to Pakistan.
