ISLAMABAD—Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has stressed that Balochistan is central to Pakistan’s unity, economic future and national security, calling for collective efforts to ensure lasting peace, inclusive development and a stronger federation.
Addressing the National Workshop Balochistan at Aiwan-e-Sadr, Gilani said sustainable peace requires not only improved security but also greater investment in education, employment, skills development and equal opportunities for the province’s youth. He said winning the trust of the people is essential for long-term stability.
Condemning terrorism, the Chairman Senate paid tribute to the Pakistan Armed Forces, Frontier Corps, Police and other law enforcement agencies for their sacrifices in safeguarding the country. He reaffirmed the Senate’s commitment to protecting provincial rights, strengthening the federation and ensuring equitable distribution of resources.
Recalling his tenure as Prime Minister, Gilani highlighted initiatives including the Aghaz-e-Huqooq-e-Balochistan Package, the Seventh NFC Award, settlement of gas royalty issues and enhanced opportunities for Baloch youth in federal institutions.
During the question-and-answer session, he described Pakistan’s youth as the nation’s future, praised the vision of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto in establishing the Senate as the House of Federation, and appreciated the country’s civil and military leadership for efforts to promote peace in Balochistan and beyond.
