ISLAMABAD–President of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), Sardar Tahir Mehmood, has called on the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to withdraw basement construction charges for traders in Steel Market I-10/3, while urging policymakers to make ease of doing business a key priority for sustainable economic growth, investment, and employment generation.
Addressing a delegation of the Traders Welfare Association, Steel Market I-10/3, at the Chamber House, he said ICCI is actively working with the FBR, CDA, Islamabad Police, District Administration, IESCO, and other institutions to resolve the business community’s concerns. He reaffirmed the Chamber’s commitment to protecting the interests of traders and industrialists through consultation and consensus.
During the meeting, Chaudhry Mohammad Irfan, President of the Traders Welfare Association and ICCI Vice President, requested the CDA to construct a link bridge between Streets 4 and 7, permit the establishment of a dispensary on the allocated plot, and review the revised policy imposing basement construction charges on commercial plots. He said the new policy has placed an unnecessary financial burden on traders.
Association Secretary General Haji Zafar also sought ICCI’s support for the allotment of remaining plots to steel fabricators and highlighted issues related to encroachments, sewerage, streetlights, inadequate infrastructure, and security concerns caused by temporary huts in the market area.
Former ICCI Senior Vice President Khalid Chaudhry, Executive Members, ICCI members, and a large number of traders attended the meeting.
