MANDI BAHAUDDIN–In line with the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Mandi Bahauddin has completed comprehensive preparations for the monsoon season to ensure smooth drainage and minimize the risk of urban flooding.
Talking to the media, Managing Director WASA Mandi Bahauddin Ali Ahmed Chaudhry said that all major and minor sewer lines and drains across the city have been thoroughly cleaned ahead of the monsoon. He added that WASA officers and field staff are continuously supervising the cleaning operation on an emergency basis to keep the drainage network fully functional.
The MD said that, under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Mandi Bahauddin, modern monitoring systems, including CCTV cameras and rain gauges, are being used to monitor rainfall in different parts of the city. Monsoon emergency camps have also been established at key locations and major roads, equipped with the necessary machinery and resources to respond promptly to any emergency situation.
Ali Ahmed Chaudhry stated that 52 millimetres of rainfall were recorded during the heavy rain that lashed Mandi Bahauddin the previous night. As soon as the rain began, WASA field teams immediately started drainage operations and succeeded in clearing rainwater from the city’s main roads and highways within a short period.
He further said that, under his special instructions and the supervision of Deputy Director Rana Muhammad Kashif, the cleaning of sewer lines and small and large drains is being carried out on a daily basis, with the work already completed in many parts of the city.
The MD added that WASA teams remain on high alert to ensure timely drainage of rainwater and prevent waterlogging during the expected monsoon rains. He said every available resource is being utilized to improve the sewerage system and provide better municipal services to the public.
Appealing to citizens, Ali Ahmed Chaudhry urged the public to cooperate with the administration by maintaining cleanliness and avoiding the disposal of garbage into sewer lines and drains, as such practices obstruct the drainage system and create unnecessary problems during the monsoon season.
