Report: ANI :

ISLAMABAD — A Hepatitis C screening camp was organised at the National Skills University Islamabad under the Prime Minister’s Hepatitis C Elimination Programme, in collaboration with Qamar Jehan Lab and City Lab, to promote awareness, early diagnosis and prevention.

HEC Chairman Dr. Niaz Ahmad Akhtar attended the event as chief guest, along with former Punjab Health Minister Dr. Jamal Nasir, programme focal person Zubair Nasir, and National Skills University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Saud Altaf.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Niaz Ahmad Akhtar described Hepatitis C as a serious public health challenge and stressed the need for collective efforts to ensure timely screening, treatment and prevention. He reaffirmed the importance of involving relevant institutions in achieving Pakistan’s goal of eliminating the disease by 2030.

Former Punjab Health Minister Dr. Jamal Nasir appreciated the Higher Education Commission for encouraging universities to support the national elimination campaign. He said higher education institutions could play an important role in public health awareness by organising screening camps and promoting preventive measures.

Dr. Jamal Nasir also emphasised the importance of addressing public misconceptions and fears about the disease, adding that timely diagnosis and treatment under qualified medical professionals could help control its spread.

Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Saud Altaf said the screening camp reflected the university’s commitment to social responsibility and public welfare.

The initiative aimed to encourage students, faculty members, employees and the wider university community to seek timely screening and improve awareness about Hepatitis C prevention and treatment.
