Report: Hurish Shah FT:

ISLAMABAD — Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) President Mohammad Zikria Akbar Zia has called for joint ventures between Pakistani businesses and China’s Wuxi Shengbao Vehicle Manufacturing Co., Ltd. to promote electric motorcycle manufacturing, technology transfer and local production in Pakistan.

Welcoming a Chinese business delegation led by Yang Zong at the Chamber House on Thursday, Zikria Akbar Zia said Pakistan offered significant opportunities for electric motorcycles, scooters and bicycles. He stressed that cooperation should focus on local assembly, manufacturing, research and development, and gradual localization of components.

He said Pakistan-China economic cooperation should move beyond the import of finished products towards sustainable industrial partnerships that could create employment, strengthen domestic supply chains, attract investment and boost exports. He also offered the Chinese company an opportunity to showcase its electric mobility products at ICCI’s upcoming expo and display centre.

Yang Zong introduced the company’s OPAI brand of two-wheelers and expressed interest in joint ventures, local production and exports to regional and international markets. He highlighted opportunities for technical training, skills development and strengthening Pakistan’s manufacturing capabilities.

ICCI Senior Vice President Mohammad Ashfaq Chatha stressed the importance of business-to-business engagement and industrial collaboration for the mutual benefit of Pakistan and China.

ICCI Executive Committee members Sadaf Asim Abbasi and Nageena Khaleeque, along with Syed Imran Bukhari, Dr. Shahid Zafar, Mamoon Shafqat, Zafar Shehzad, Asif Javaid, Waseem Chaudhry, Sajid Iqbal, Rashid Tufail, Muhammad Arif and other business representatives, also attended the meeting and participated in discussions.
