Report: ANI Correspondent

ISLAMABAD — October 27, 1947, is observed as Kashmir Black Day by the Kashmiri people, marking the arrival of Indian troops in Srinagar and a turning point in the history of Jammu and Kashmir.

The Kashmir dispute was subsequently taken to the United Nations, where the right to self-determination of the Kashmiri people became a central issue. In 1948, the UN Security Council adopted resolutions addressing the dispute and outlining a process for determining the region’s future through a free and impartial plebiscite.

Despite decades of international deliberations and successive conflicts between India and Pakistan, the dispute remains unresolved. On August 5, 2019, India revoked Jammu and Kashmir’s special constitutional status and reorganised the region, further intensifying concerns among the Kashmiri people.

These historical developments reflect the prolonged struggle, sacrifices and determination of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Kashmiri representatives continue to raise their demands at national and international forums, calling for the implementation of relevant UN resolutions and their right to self-determination.

The international community has been urged to play a meaningful role in securing a peaceful, just and lasting resolution that respects the rights and aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
