KARACHI — The Quaid-e-Azam House Museum (QAHM) hosted a discussion on competing interpretations of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s political thought and Pakistan’s ideological foundations.
Historian and LUMS Professor Dr Ali Usman Qasmi delivered a presentation titled “Whose Jinnah? Which Ideology? Debating Pakistan’s Foundational Ideas,” examining the evolution of Pakistan’s historiography, state ideology and changing interpretations of the country’s identity.
Dr Qasmi discussed how Pakistan’s historical and ideological narratives evolved over the decades, particularly after the separation of East Pakistan in 1971. He also explored contemporary interpretations of the Indus Valley Civilisation as part of Pakistan’s historical heritage.
The presentation was followed by a question-and-answer session focusing on Jinnah’s political legacy, historiography, ideology and Pakistan’s national identity.
The event was attended by academics, media professionals and civil society representatives, including Bangladesh Deputy High Commissioner Sakib Sadakat, Shahnaz Wazir Ali, former PSO chief Khalid Rahman, IBA Dean Dr Yaqoob Bangash and Publishing Director of Lightstone Publishers Nadia Ghani.
The programme was welcomed by QAHM Board Secretary General Commodore (retd) Sadeed Malik, while Ameena Saiyid, S.I., introduced Dr Qasmi and delivered the closing remarks.
