MITHI: Deputy Commissioner Tharparkar Abdul Haleem Jagirani has directed the district administration to ensure the availability of essential food items to the public at reasonable and officially notified prices, stressing that effective market monitoring is a key responsibility of the administration.

Chairing a meeting at the Conference Hall in Mithi to review measures for controlling artificial inflation allegedly caused by traders, the Deputy Commissioner directed relevant officers to closely monitor market prices and take strict action in accordance with the law against profiteering, hoarding and smuggling.

He said the revised price list for essential commodities, prepared in view of prevailing market rates, must be strictly implemented to provide maximum relief to citizens.

The meeting reviewed the fixation and implementation of prices of essential commodities, along with measures to curb hoarding and smuggling. The Deputy Commissioner directed Assistant Commissioners to conduct regular inspections of markets in their respective areas and ensure that traders and shopkeepers dealing in milk, meat, poultry, fruits, vegetables, flour, groceries and other essential commodities sell their products at the officially notified rates.

He further directed that immediate legal action be taken against profiteering, hoarding or any attempt to create artificial inflation, with the objective of providing maximum relief to the public.

With the consensus of traders participating in the meeting, prices of various daily-use food items were also fixed, following which the revised price list was issued.

Additional Deputy Commissioner-I Tharparkar Hashim Masood, Additional Deputy Commissioner-II Tharparkar Umer Ashraf, Assistant Commissioners, officials of relevant departments and office-bearers of traders’ associations attended the meeting.
