ISLAMABAD –The Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) will hold the “Islamabad Governance and Provincial Status Convention 2026” on September 25 to initiate consultation on the future governance structure and status of the federal capital.
ICCI President Sardar Tahir Mehmood, addressing a press conference, said Islamabad’s existing governance system, based on the 1960 ordinance, was no longer sufficient to address the needs of a rapidly growing city with a population approaching 2.5 million.
He said the convention would bring together representatives of the business community, trade associations, bar councils, civil society, academia, professionals and residents to discuss governance, municipal services, financial arrangements and other issues facing Islamabad.
Federal Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi has agreed to attend the convention as Chief Guest, while political representatives from major parties will also be invited.
Sardar Tahir Mehmood said ICCI was an apolitical platform and would neither support nor oppose any political party or particular governance model. He stressed that Islamabad’s future should be discussed through an inclusive consultation involving all stakeholders.
