QUETTA — The security situation along the Quetta-Ziarat National Highway has become tense following a series of alleged terrorist attacks at different locations, prompting authorities to suspend traffic on the highway from both directions.
According to security sources, militants ambushed Frontier Corps (FC) personnel near Kuch Mor on the Ziarat National Highway. Security forces responded with retaliatory action, leading to an intense exchange of fire.
Security sources claimed that more than a dozen terrorists were killed during the retaliatory and clearance operation. Several security personnel also embraced martyrdom while fighting the attackers, while one personnel was injured.
Following reports of the presence of additional militants in the area, heavy reinforcements were dispatched and a search and clearance operation is continuing.
In another incident on the same highway, militants allegedly targeted a team of the Assistant Commissioner, Harnai. Two personnel were injured in firing and were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, at Ghorgai, militants allegedly attacked a camp of a company working on the Ziarat-Quetta National Highway. The attackers reportedly set fire to the company’s heavy machinery, destroying the equipment. Two employees of the company were also reportedly abducted and taken towards the mountainous area.
In view of the deteriorating security situation, the administration has completely closed the Quetta-Ziarat National Highway to all traffic from both directions.
Security forces are continuing search and clearance operations in the affected areas. Authorities have urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel on the highway and cooperate with security agencies until the security situation improves.
