RAWALPINDI—Prof. Dr. Tayyaba Zarif has assumed charge as Vice Chancellor of Rawalpindi Women University and initiated a forward-looking, dynamic, and results-oriented reform agenda aimed at strengthening academic excellence, research, and institutional development.
Her appointment was made by the Governor of Punjab, in his capacity as Chancellor, on the recommendation of the Higher Education Department’s Search Committee, for a four-year term. The official notification was issued on July 10, 2026.
Recognized as one of Pakistan’s distinguished academic leaders, Prof. Dr. Tayyaba Zarif brings more than 27 years of experience in higher education, with expertise in teaching, research, quality assurance, curriculum development, faculty development, and academic policy-making. Her career has been marked by a strong commitment to institutional growth, academic excellence, and sustainable reforms.
Before joining Rawalpindi Women University, she served as Vice Chancellor of two universities in Sindh, where her leadership contributed significantly to improving academic standards, governance, and overall institutional development.
Soon after assuming office, Prof. Dr. Tayyaba convened a comprehensive meeting of all Heads of Academic Departments to review the university’s current performance and future direction. Department heads presented detailed briefings on academic performance, research activities, achievements, challenges, and strategic plans, enabling the university leadership to identify practical measures for improvement.
Addressing the meeting, the Vice Chancellor emphasized that quality education and a strong research culture are the foundation of any successful university. She directed faculty members to focus on high-quality research, securing research grants, publishing in internationally recognized journals, and enhancing academic standards. She also highlighted curriculum modernization, stronger academia-industry collaboration, and improved teaching methodologies as key priorities to prepare students for evolving global challenges.
Prof. Dr. Tayyaba stated that the university’s development strategy would be based on long-term, sustainable planning rather than short-term initiatives. She stressed that academic programs, research, infrastructure, and institutional policymaking would be strengthened in line with international standards while ensuring efficient utilization of resources.
She announced that comprehensive planning is underway to introduce new academic programs aligned with market demands and emerging disciplines. These proposals will soon be presented to the Academic Council for approval. In addition, the university will prioritize the upgradation of laboratories, digital facilities, and campus infrastructure.
Sharing her vision, Prof. Dr. Tayyaba Zarif said that the true progress of any institution depends on vision, innovation, teamwork, and a clear sense of direction. She expressed confidence that, with the collective efforts of faculty, officers, staff, and students, Rawalpindi Women University will further strengthen its academic and research profile while advancing its mission of empowering women through quality higher education.
The Heads of Academic Departments appreciated the Vice Chancellor’s dynamic leadership, clear vision, professional expertise, and commitment to sustainable institutional development, assuring her of their full support and cooperation.
