ISLAMABAD: Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, addressing the 9th OIC Ministerial Conference on Women, said that Islam provides a strong foundation for women’s rights, dignity, and empowerment, and that empowering women is both a development imperative and an Islamic responsibility. He said Pakistan remains committed to promoting women’s education, digital inclusion, entrepreneurship, and economic empowerment through initiatives such as the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) and the Waseela-e-Taleem Programme. He urged OIC member states to move beyond declarations and take practical steps to expand opportunities for women in education, leadership, financial inclusion, digital skills, and entrepreneurship, emphasizing that sustainable development cannot be achieved without the full participation of women.
