LAHORE — A three-year-old child died after drowning in a rainwater pond that had accumulated in an empty plot in Mohallah Islamabad, Raiwind.
According to police and rescue sources, the deceased was identified as three-year-old Fahad, son of Imran. The child was playing near his home when he accidentally fell into the deep, open and unprotected pool of rainwater in the vacant plot.
When the child could not be found, his parents began searching for him and eventually pulled him out of the water. The family rushed him to the Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital, where doctors confirmed that he had died before reaching the hospital.
The incident has caused grief and anger among local residents, who said unprotected vacant plots and poor drainage in residential areas pose a serious threat to children.
Residents demanded that authorities ensure boundary walls around vacant plots and improve the drainage system to prevent rainwater from accumulating. They also called for an inquiry into any negligence and appropriate legal action against those responsible.
Local police have initiated legal proceedings, while the tragic death of the child has left the area in deep mourning.
