RABAT — Morocco’s King Mohammed VI has appointed Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri as the country’s first woman Prime Minister and tasked her with forming a new government, the Royal Palace announced on Tuesday, September 29, 2026.
Born in Marrakech on January 3, 1976, El Mansouri is a lawyer specializing in land and real-estate law. She holds a law degree from Mohammed V University in Rabat, a postgraduate degree in business contract law from the University of Montpellier in France, and a certificate in Anglo-Saxon law from Pace University in the United States.
She has held several senior political positions, including Mayor of Marrakech and Minister of National Territory Planning, Urban Planning, Housing and City Policy. She has also served as a member of parliament and is a senior figure in Morocco’s Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM).
El Mansouri’s appointment follows parliamentary elections in which the PAM emerged as the largest party, winning 97 of the 395 seats in the House of Representatives. She will now work to form a governing coalition.
Her appointment makes her the second woman to serve as head of government in the Arab world, following Tunisia’s Najla Bouden, who served as prime minister from 2021 to 2023.
Her government is expected to oversee major economic and development priorities, including preparations and investment linked to the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which Morocco will co-host with Spain and Portugal.
