ISLAMABAD — The Senate Standing Committee on Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC), chaired by Senator Dilawar Khan, reviewed issues relating to inter-provincial security, transit, citizen movement and food supplies at a meeting held at Parliament House.
The committee expressed concern over the absence of key provincial representatives and the relevant Federal Minister/Adviser, noting that repeated non-attendance could hinder the resolution of public issues.
Police officials from Rawalpindi, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Balochistan briefed the committee on security arrangements at inter-provincial checkpoints. The RPO Rawalpindi said 31 cross-border check posts were operational, with security personnel deployed at 15 critical locations.
Members acknowledged security requirements but stressed that citizens should not face unnecessary inconvenience or harassment. Senator Aimal Wali Khan particularly urged authorities to respect local cultural norms and women's privacy during searches in tribal areas.
Police officials said cases involving “doubtful” CNICs identified by NADRA were being addressed through district-level committees headed by deputy commissioners. Sindh Police also clarified that uniform security protocols were being followed to prevent smuggling, drugs and other threats.
The committee reviewed the movement of wheat between provinces and sought written details from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Department regarding grain reserves and procurement policies to ensure uninterrupted supplies.
The chairman said flour transportation had improved after the committee previously summoned the DIG Rawalpindi and DPO Attock.
The committee reaffirmed its focus on inter-provincial harmony, equal treatment of citizens and better coordination among institutions. The agenda regarding the Punjab Chief Minister's statement on terrorism from provinces was deferred due to the absence of the Federal Minister/Adviser.
