ISLAMABAD — Former Senior Vice President of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) and Secretary of the Traders Action Committee Islamabad, Khalid Chaudhry, has urged Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman Rashid Mahmood Langrial to extend the deadline for filing income tax returns until November 30.
Khalid Chaudhry said the income tax portal became operational at the end of July, while practical filing started in August, leaving taxpayers insufficient time to prepare and submit their returns. He said law-and-order issues and other difficulties in different parts of the country had also affected the filing process.
He said extending the deadline would help increase the number of tax returns, improve revenue collection and broaden the tax base.
Khalid Chaudhry also called for extending the deadline under the Tajir Asan Scheme to November 30, saying additional time would help bring more small traders into the tax net.
He urged the FBR to announce the extension immediately, keeping in view the practical difficulties faced by traders and other taxpayers.
